Johann Crüger (April 9, 1598 – February 23, 1662) was a German composer of well-known hymns.

Crüger was innate within Gruben, the boy of the restauranteur. He exposed at a Lateinschule in Guben until 1613, after which he traveled to Sorau and Breslau and finally to Regensburg, where he received his number 1 musical educational videos from either Paulus Homberger. Within 1615 he traveled to Berlin, where he exposed theology at the gymnasium Zum Grauen Kloster. From either 1620 he studied theology at a University of Wittenberg and trained himself further within music across personal learn. From either 1622 to his death, the period of Xl years, he was at the same time the teacher at Zum Grauen Kloster & Cantor of the St.-Nicolai-Kirche in Berlin.

Crüger composed many concert works & wrote extensively in music education. Inside 1643 he became acquainted with a notable anthem writer Paul Gerhardt, for whom he wrote the music for various anthem. Inside 1647 he wrote the first book of anthem of the 17th century, Praxis pietatis melica.
